Not
many tourist attractions here, I'm afraid. The
Kuwait Towers are a must (can't give you the opening
hours, though), good views if not cloudy. There
are a few beaches. The only out-of-city hotel
is the Kheiran Resort (on the way to the Saudi
border) which rents beach-side chalets and studios
- has swimming pools, swings, grass and stuff
- very pleasant. The big hotels run sports clubs
which cost a lot but are very popular in the absence
of much else to do.

More than 30 shipping lines call regularly at
Kuwait City, Kuwait's major port. Most traffic
is commercial.

BY LAND
Note: Owing to the current political and military
situation in both Lebanon and southern Iraq, it
is wise to check with the Embassy before selecting
a route. There are excellent road links with Saudi
Arabia and Iraq and hence on to Syria and Jordan.
Buses operate between Kuwait and Cairo via Aqaba
in Jordan and Nuweiba in Egypt. There are also
international bus services to Dammam in Saudi
Arabia.
There are two preferred routes from the Mediterranean:
Tripoli–Homs–Baghdad–Basra–Kuwait,
and Beirut–Damascus– Amman–Kuwait.
The latter route follows the Trans-Arabian Pipeline
(TAP line) through Saudi Arabia; the former runs
across the Syrian desert.

By Air Travel
Kuwait's national airline, Kuwait Airways (KU),
operates daily nonstop flights to Kuwait from
London. Other airlines serving Kuwait include
British Airways, Alitalia, Air France, KLM and
Lufthansa Airlines.
Approximate flight times:
From Kuwait to London is 6 hours, to New York
is 13 hours, to Los Angeles is 19 hours, to Singapore
is 11 hours 30 minutes and to Sydney is 17 hours.
Kuwait International Airport:
Kuwait (KWI) (tel: 433 4499; 24-hour flight information),
16km (10 miles) south of Kuwait City (travel time
– 25 minutes). Reliable transport to and
from the city is available, including bus (travel
time – 30 minutes) departing every 45 minutes
(0600-2300) and taxi service. Airport facilities
include restaurants, shops, cafeteria, bank/bureau
de change, car rental (Al Mulla, Avis, Budget
and Europcar), conference room and post office.
